WHO AM I?
My name is Laszlo. I am a photographer living and working across Melbourne and Sydney, with an interest in people and subculture.
I was born in Sydney but spent the majority of my childhood in Melbourne. I attended school in the inner city and am currently a student at The University of Melbourne. I am studying a Bachelors of Arts, majoring in Sociology and Screen and Cultural Studies . My lust for life is driven by 3 things, photography, the consumption of authentic art and the incredible people I have filled my life with.
My journey with photography started when I was gifted a Rollei 35B and I quickly fell in love with the difficult process of making images with this camera. I quickly merged my burgeoning love of photography with my passion for Melbourne's underground rave culture, where I began taking portraits of the attendees of these events. This further evolved into a full fledged project and soon to be book, documenting the subculture through a mix of candid imagery and on location portraiture.
Growing up, I was surrounded by the arts, going through an alternative education system that placed an emphasis on art, creativity and play. These are values that I have carried with me into all aspects of my life and come through strongly in my photos. I am deeply interested in subculture and play, I take life lightly and enjoy things as they come. I seek to create authentic feeling portraits of interesting people that connect to their inner story and sense of playfulness.
Having started my photographic journey on film, it continues to play a significant role in my creative side, the possibilities for experimentation and escaping our digital world strong appeal to me. Working across 35mm, medium format, digital mirrorless and traditional DSLRs has taught me so much about myself and my process.
Currently I am living and working primarily within Melbourne, though I am open to working interstate. Primarily I am doing artist portraits and nightlife photography whilst I establish my fashion and lifestyle portfolio.
